Description

Ecamsule (CAS 92761-26-7), commercially known as Mexoryl SX, is a water-soluble organic UV filter developed by L'Oréal. It carries EC number 410-960-6 and the molecular formula C28H34O8S2. It is also referenced under the trade names Anthelios SX and Capital Soleil in finished formulations.

Ecamsule is used primarily in sunscreen formulations to absorb UVA radiation in the 320–400 nm range, particularly the shorter UVA-II band around 345 nm. It functions by absorbing UV photons and dissipating the energy as heat, reducing photodamage to skin cells. Formulators combine it with UVB filters such as avobenzone to achieve broad-spectrum SPF products.

Ecamsule is available at 98% purity grade and is supplied in compliance with REACH registration requirements for the European market. Regulatory status differs by region: it is approved in the EU under Annex VI of the Cosmetics Regulation but holds more restricted approval in the US. Packaging formats are available on request.
