EDTA tetrasodium salt tetrahydrate

Tetrasodium EDTA tetrahydrate (CAS 13235-36-4) is the fully neutralised, tetrahydrate form of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, supplied as a sodium salt. It is also referred to as EDTA-4Na tetrahydrate, Edetate Sodium Tetrahydrate, and tetrasodium edetate. No E-code designation applies to this specific salt form.

In water treatment, it sequesters calcium, magnesium, and heavy metal ions by forming stable, soluble complexes that prevent scale formation and interference with treatment chemistry. In personal care formulations, it deactivates trace metal ions that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation of active ingredients. In textile processing, it controls metal ion interference during dyeing to improve colour consistency.
