Enramycin

Enramycin (CAS 11115-82-5, EC 695-076-0) is a polypeptide antibiotic produced by fermentation of Streptomyces fungicidicus, also known under the trade names Enradin and Enduracidin. It belongs to the enduracidin class of glycopeptide-related antibiotics and is not assigned an E-code for food additive use.

In animal feed applications, enramycin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, selectively suppressing gram-positive pathogens in the gut to improve feed conversion efficiency in poultry and swine. In pharmaceutical research contexts, it serves as a reference compound and intermediate for studying novel antimicrobial mechanisms targeting lipid II pathway inhibition.

Enramycin is supplied as a solid powder, typically standardised to defined potency grades for feed or research use.
