Erucic acid

Erucic acid (CAS 112-86-7, EC 204-011-3) is a long-chain monounsaturated fatty acid derived primarily from rapeseed and mustard seed oils, with the molecular formula C22H42O2. In plastics processing, erucic acid functions as a slip and heat stabilizer by migrating to polymer surfaces, reducing friction between film layers during extrusion. In metalworking lubricants, its long carbon chain forms a boundary film on metal surfaces under high-pressure conditions. Personal care formulators use it as an emollient and skin conditioner, where it integrates into lipid barriers to improve texture and moisture retention.
