Ethoxylated 2-naphthol

Ethoxylated 2-naphthol (CAS 35545-57-4) is a nonionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating 2-naphthol with varying numbers of ethylene oxide units. It is commercially available under trade names including BNO-12, BNO-24, BNO-13, Hi 5108, and Newcol B 10, with the degree of ethoxylation determining its hydrophilic-lipophilic balance.

In textile and leather processing, it functions as an emulsifier and wetting agent by reducing interfacial tension between fiber surfaces and aqueous dye baths, improving dye penetration and uniformity. In waterborne coatings and printing inks, it stabilises pigment dispersions by adsorbing onto particle surfaces and providing steric repulsion against agglomeration.

Ethoxylated 2-naphthol is supplied in multiple grades differentiated by ethylene oxide chain length. It falls under REACH registration obligations for EU-based suppliers and buyers. Packaging formats typically include drums and intermediate bulk containers, with grade selection guided by the required HLB value for the target application.
