Description
Ethoxyquin (CAS 91-53-2) is a synthetic antioxidant and preservative registered under E-number E324 in the European Union. It is also known by the trade names Santoquin and Stop-Scald, and appears in regulatory and commercial documentation as Ethoxyquine.
In animal feed, ethoxyquin inhibits lipid oxidation in fish meal and fat-containing ingredients by scavenging free radicals before rancidity develops, extending shelf life and protecting nutritional value. In agriculture, it is applied post-harvest to pome fruits to suppress superficial scald, a physiological browning disorder triggered by oxidative stress in cold storage.
Ethoxyquin is supplied as a neat liquid conforming to feed-grade specifications under EU Regulation 1831/2003 and is subject to REACH registration.
