Description

Ethyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, also known as Etocrylene and sold under trade names including Uvinul N 35 and CE 2, is an organic UV absorber with CAS number 5232-99-5. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation in the UVB and UVA range by undergoing reversible photoisomerisation, converting UV energy into heat rather than allowing it to degrade surrounding materials.

In suncare and cosmetic formulations, Etocrylene functions as a photostabiliser that also enhances the performance of other UV filters such as avobenzone by reducing their photodegradation. In polymer processing and printing applications, it is incorporated into coatings and inks to prevent UV-induced yellowing and embrittlement of the substrate over time.

Ethyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate is supplied as a powder or crystalline solid and falls under HS code 29269090. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU, and buyers should confirm compliance documentation and purity specifications directly with the supplier prior to procurement.
