Description

FD&C Yellow No. 5 Aluminum Lake, also known as C.I. 19140:1, Pigment Yellow 100, Yellow Lake T, and Food Yellow 4:1, is an aluminum-based pigment produced by precipitating FD&C Yellow No. 5 (tartrazine) onto alumina hydrate. It carries CAS number 12225-21-7 and EC number 235-428-9.

In cosmetic formulations, the lake pigment disperses in oils and waxes rather than dissolving, making it suitable for lipsticks, pressed powders, and eye shadows where water-soluble dyes would bleed or migrate. In tablet coating and confectionery panning, it delivers consistent, opaque yellow coloration across fat-based and low-moisture systems where standard dye solutions perform poorly.

This material is supplied in compliance with FD&C regulations under 21 CFR 82.51 and is subject to batch certification by the FDA for food and drug applications. It falls under HS code 3205.00.5010 and is registered under REACH. Typical packaging includes fiber drums and polyethylene-lined bags.
