Description

Ferrous fumarate (CAS 141-01-5) is an iron salt of fumaric acid, supplied as a reddish-brown powder under trade names including Fumiron, Feostat, and Firon. It delivers bioavailable divalent iron and is used across food, pharmaceutical, personal care, and agricultural feed applications.

In pharmaceutical iron-deficiency formulations, ferrous fumarate releases Fe2+ ions in the gastrointestinal tract, offering higher elemental iron content per gram than competing iron salts. In personal care, it functions as a skin conditioner and pH buffer, while in food and feed matrices it acts as an iron fortification source with mild antimicrobial and preservative properties.

Ferrous fumarate is available in pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP/FCC) and feed-grade specifications, supporting compliance with REACH and EU feed additive regulations. Standard packaging includes 25 kg fibre drums or multi-layer bags, with documentation covering CoA, SDS, and country-of-origin certification on request.
