Description

Flavin mononucleotide (FMN), also known as riboflavin-5'-phosphate and sold under names including Flanin and Flavol, is the phosphorylated active form of riboflavin (vitamin B2), with CAS 146-17-8 and EC 205-664-7. It functions as a biological coenzyme in cellular oxidation-reduction reactions and carries the molecular formula C17H21N4O9P.

In pharmaceutical formulations, FMN serves as a bioavailable B2 source, offering greater water solubility than riboflavin itself, which improves absorption in oral and injectable preparations. In food and beverage applications, it acts as an antioxidant and colour stabiliser, protecting lipid-containing systems from oxidative degradation while contributing a natural yellow pigment.

FMN is available in pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.) and food-grade (FCC) specifications, supporting compliance with both medicinal and food additive regulatory frameworks across the EU under REACH registration requirements. Standard supply formats include bulk powder in moisture-controlled packaging suited to light-sensitive materials.
