Description

Folic acid (CAS 59-30-3) is a water-soluble B-vitamin also known as folacin, folate, PGA, PteGlu, and FOLSAN. It is not assigned an E-number under EU food additive regulations but is regulated as a nutrient and active ingredient across multiple product categories.

In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations, folic acid serves as a bioactive B9 source, supporting cellular metabolism at measured dosage levels. In personal care applications, it functions as a skin conditioner and contributes antioxidant activity, helping to stabilise formulations against oxidative degradation. Its antimicrobial properties also support preservation in select cosmetic matrices.

Folic acid is available in pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP) and food-grade (FCC) specifications, supplied as an orange to yellow crystalline powder. It falls under HS code 29362910 and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Standard packaging includes fibre drums and double polyethylene-lined bags.
