Description
Furfural (CAS 98-01-1) is an aromatic heterocyclic aldehyde derived from agricultural byproducts such as oat hulls, sugarcane bagasse, and corncobs. It is commercially known under the names Furol, Fural, Furale, FCHO, and Ant Oil. No E-code has been assigned for direct food additive use in the EU.
In food and flavour applications, furfural contributes almond, caramel, and woody notes to finished products, functioning as a flavorant at controlled concentrations. In personal care formulations, it acts as a humectant by attracting and retaining moisture within the skin barrier. It is also evaluated as a skin protectant in topical preparations.
Furfural is supplied as a technical or refined liquid grade and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU import and use. Buyers should verify FCC compliance for food-grade applications and confirm supplier SDS documentation prior to procurement. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers.
