Description
Gallic acid (CAS 149-91-7, EC 205-749-9) is a naturally occurring organic acid derived primarily from plant sources such as gallnuts, sumac, and tea leaves. It is also referenced under trade designations including RARECHEM AL BE 0070 and TIMTEC-BB SBB008781. No E-code is assigned for direct food additive use in the EU.
In food and pharmaceutical formulations, gallic acid functions as a chain-breaking antioxidant by donating hydrogen atoms to neutralise free radicals, extending shelf life in lipid-containing products. In personal care, it acts as a UV absorber and skin protectant by absorbing UV radiation and scavenging reactive oxygen species generated by photodamage.
This material is supplied as a white powder meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC grade specifications and is fully registered under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg fibre drums, with smaller quantities available for development use. Buyers should confirm purity grade against the intended application prior to ordering.
