Description

Geranial, also known as Citral a or alpha-Citral, is the trans isomer of citral, a naturally occurring monoterpene aldehyde with CAS number 141-27-5. It is found in lemon myrtle, lemongrass, and related botanical sources, and is commercially available both as an isolated isomer and as part of the citral mixture.

In flavour formulation, geranial contributes a sharp, lemon-forward character and is used to build citrus profiles in beverages and confectionery, where its aldehyde group drives the perceived intensity. In personal care, it functions as a fragrance ingredient and solvent carrier in rinse-off and leave-on products, helping to disperse other aromatic components within a formulation.

Geranial is supplied as a liquid oil and is available in food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications aligned with FCC and IFRA standards. It falls under REACH registration requirements for supply within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm isomer purity specifications and request a certificate of analysis prior to ordering.
