Glutamine

Glutamine (CAS 56-85-9) is a conditionally non-essential amino acid occurring naturally in human plasma and muscle tissue, commercially identified by the abbreviations GLN, L-Gln, and H-GLN-OH, and assigned FEMA number 3684. It carries no E-code designation in the EU.

In personal care formulations, glutamine functions as a humectant and skin conditioner by binding water molecules within the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss. In food and pharmaceutical applications, it serves as a buffering agent, stabilising pH in aqueous systems, and supports cell culture media as a primary nitrogen source for fermentation processes.

Glutamine is available in pharmaceutical grade (Ph.Eur. compliant) and food grade (FCC compliant) specifications, supplied as a white crystalline powder. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU import and is classified under HS code 29241900. Standard packaging includes 25 kg fibre drums, with bulk quantities available on request.
