Description

Glutathione (CAS 70-18-8) is a tripeptide composed of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, commonly abbreviated as GSH. It is also known under trade names such as Ledac, Copren, and Triptide, and by the shorthand notation GLU(CYS-GLY). No E-code has been assigned for its use in food applications within the EU.

In personal care formulations, GSH functions as a skin conditioner and antioxidant by donating electrons to neutralise free radicals and inhibit melanin synthesis, making it relevant in brightening and anti-ageing products. In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, it acts as a reducing agent to protect sensitive active compounds from oxidative degradation during processing and storage.

Glutathione is supplied as a white crystalline powder in pharmaceutical and cosmetic grades, with quality benchmarks including Ph.Eur. and FCC specifications. The substance is registered under REACH and classified under HS code 29309070. Packaging is typically available in kilogram quantities suited to industrial procurement volumes.
