Description

Glycerine monooleate (CAS 25496-72-4) is a monoglyceride ester derived from glycerol and oleic acid, approved as food additive E 496 within the EU. It is commercially available under trade designations including OP 85, SP 85, S 1096, and S 1097, and is classified under EC number 247-038-6.

In food manufacturing, it functions as an emulsifier by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, stabilising fat dispersions in margarine and bakery shortenings. In personal care formulations, it acts as a humectant and emollient carrier, improving moisture retention and facilitating delivery of active ingredients into skin systems.

Glycerine monooleate is supplied in food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications, with compliance to FCC, Ph.Eur., and EU REACH regulations applicable depending on end use. The E 496 designation confirms EU food approval. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs; documentation including SDS and CoA is available on request.
