Description
Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA, CAS 106-91-2) is a bifunctional reactive monomer carrying both an epoxide and a methacrylate group on the same molecule. It is commercially available under trade names including Blemmer G and Acryester G, and is also referred to as epoxypropyl methacrylate or glycidol methacrylate.
In polymer synthesis, GMA is incorporated into acrylic and methacrylic copolymers where the epoxide group provides reactive sites for crosslinking or grafting onto substrates such as glass fibers, metals, and engineering plastics. In printing and packaging applications, it functions as a reactive diluent in UV-curable coatings, where the methacrylate group participates in free-radical polymerization upon irradiation.
GMA is supplied as a stabilized liquid grade and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It carries no E-code designation. Procurement quantities typically range from drum to IBC formats, and buyers should confirm inhibitor type and concentration when specifying for sensitive polymerization processes.
