Description

Glycol Distearate (EGDS) is a diester of ethylene glycol and stearic acid, commercially available under trade names including Rita EGDS, Lipo EGDS, Mapeg EGDS, Genapol PMS, and Kessco EGDS. It carries no E-code designation and is identified by CAS 627-83-8 and EC 211-014-3.

In personal care formulations, EGDS produces optical pearlescence in shampoos and body washes by forming lamellar crystalline structures that scatter light. In coatings and textile processing, it functions as an emulsifier and surface modifier, reducing interfacial tension to stabilise dispersions and improve substrate wetting during application.

EGDS is supplied as beads and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market entry. Grades suitable for cosmetic applications are evaluated against INCI and EU Cosmetics Regulation standards. Procurement teams should confirm supplier documentation for purity specifications and batch traceability prior to sourcing.
