Glyoxal

Glyoxal (CAS 107-22-2) is a dialdehyde compound also known by the trade names Oxal and Biformal, and abbreviated as (CHO)2 or Diformyl. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under organic acids, with the molecular formula C2H2O2.

In textile and paper processing, glyoxal functions as a crosslinker by reacting with hydroxyl groups in cellulose fibres, improving wrinkle resistance and wet strength. In water treatment and personal care formulations, it acts as a preservation agent, disrupting microbial cell function at controlled concentrations. It also serves as a catalyst intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis.

Glyoxal is supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at 40% concentration, and is subject to REACH registration requirements for European market compliance. It is available in IBC containers and bulk tanker formats.
