Description

Grape seed oil (CAS 8024-22-4, EC 617-024-8) is a fixed vegetable oil cold-pressed or solvent-extracted from the seeds of Vitis vinifera. Also referred to as grape oil or Oils, grape in trade documentation, it contains a high proportion of linoleic acid alongside natural tocopherols and polyphenolic compounds.

In personal care formulations, it functions as a lightweight carrier oil that delivers active ingredients transdermally without occluding pores. In food processing, its tocopherol content provides antioxidant stabilisation that extends shelf life of fat-containing products. Industrial lubricant formulators use it as a bio-based base fluid where biodegradability and low toxicity are specification requirements.

Grape seed oil is available in food-grade, cosmetic-grade, and technical-grade forms, with food applications governed by EU Regulation 1223/2009 for cosmetics and general food law under EC 178/2002. It falls under REACH registration obligations for industrial volumes. Packaging typically ranges from drums to IBC containers depending on grade and volume.
