Description

Hexafluorosilicic acid (CAS 16961-83-4, EC 241-034-8, H2SiF6) is an inorganic acid supplied as an aqueous solution, commonly referred to as fluosilicic acid, hydrofluorosilicic acid, or fluorosilicic acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive.

In water treatment, it serves as the primary fluoridation agent, releasing fluoride ions under controlled pH to achieve target dosing levels in municipal systems. In building and construction, it acts as a concrete hardener and crosslinker, reacting with free calcium hydroxide in cement matrices to form insoluble calcium fluorosilicate, increasing surface density and resistance to wear.

The product is available as an aqueous solution, typically at concentrations between 20% and 35% w/w, and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement should confirm technical or industrial grade specifications with the supplier, as no Ph.Eur. or FCC monograph applies. HS code 28111990 governs import classification.
