Description

Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP), also known by the abbreviations POD and MPO and the trade names Baylase RP and IPR029609, is an oxidoreductase enzyme derived from horseradish root (Armoracia rusticana), catalogued under CAS 9003-99-0 and EC 232-668-6. It catalyses the oxidation of a broad range of substrates in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.

In diagnostic assay development, HRP serves as the reporter enzyme in ELISA platforms, generating a measurable colorimetric or chemiluminescent signal upon substrate oxidation. In pharmaceutical synthesis, it drives selective oxidative coupling reactions under mild aqueous conditions, reducing the need for harsh chemical oxidants. It is also applied in biosensor fabrication, where its peroxidase activity enables electrochemical detection of analytes.

HRP is supplied as a lyophilised powder in activity-defined units (RZ value, Reinheitszahl), with grades available to meet research and industrial specifications. The substance is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Packaging is typically provided in unit-activity formats suited to laboratory and pilot-scale procurement.
