Description

Hydrated silica (CAS 10279-57-9) is an amorphous, water-containing form of silicon dioxide, commercially known under trade names such as Davisil, Celite, and Kieselguhr. It is distinct from anhydrous silica by its surface-bound hydroxyl groups, which govern its adsorptive and rheological behaviour across industrial applications.

In personal care formulations, hydrated silica functions as a mild abrasive and thickening agent in toothpastes and skin-care products, controlling texture through particle-level friction and viscosity build. In rubber compounding, it reinforces polymer matrices and replaces carbon black, improving wet-grip performance in tire treads through silanol-polymer bonding.

This material is supplied in tablet form (approximately 0.5 g per tablet) and falls under HS code 2811 22 00. It is subject to REACH registration and is available in food-contact and technical grades; buyers should confirm compliance with FCC or Ph.Eur. monographs depending on the intended application.
