Description
Hydrazine (CAS 302-01-2, EC 206-114-9, formula H4N2) is an inorganic amine compound also known as diazane, diamine, and N2H4, and supplied commercially as H 70, referring to aqueous solutions of approximately 70% concentration. It carries no E-code designation and is classified under HS code 28251090.
In boiler and steam systems, hydrazine scavenges dissolved oxygen by reacting directly with O2 to form water and nitrogen, preventing corrosion in high-pressure circuits. It also serves as a blowing agent precursor in polymer foam production and as a reducing agent in pharmaceutical synthesis, where it initiates specific condensation reactions to build heterocyclic intermediates.
Hydrazine is available as anhydrous material or as stabilised aqueous solutions, typically at 35%, 64%, or 70% concentrations. It is subject to REACH regulation and classified as a CMR substance under CLP, requiring documented downstream user obligations. Packaging and transport comply with ADR hazardous goods requirements.
