Description
Hydrogen peroxide (CAS 7722-84-1), also known by trade names Albone, Superoxol, Peroxaan, and Inhibine, is an inorganic oxidising agent consisting of two hydrogen and two oxygen atoms. It is commercially available in aqueous solution at concentrations ranging from 3% to 90% and carries no E-code designation.
In pulp and paper processing, hydrogen peroxide bleaches cellulose fibres by breaking chromophore bonds through oxidative degradation, without the chlorinated byproducts associated with chlorine-based alternatives. In water treatment, it eliminates pathogens and degrades organic contaminants via hydroxyl radical generation, particularly when activated with UV light or catalysts such as iron salts.
Hydrogen peroxide is supplied in technical, food-grade (FCC), and pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.) specifications to meet sector-specific compliance requirements. It falls under REACH regulation and requires classification and labelling under CLP. Packaging typically includes IBC containers, drums, and bulk tanker deliveries depending on concentration and volume.
