Description

Hydroxyapatite (CAS 1306-06-5) is a calcium phosphate mineral also known by trade names HAP-B, Monite, Tri-Tab, Bone Ash, and Apaceram. It is the principal inorganic constituent of bone and dental enamel, and carries no assigned E-code for food additive use in the EU.

In pharmaceutical tablet manufacturing, hydroxyapatite functions as a direct-compression excipient and pH buffer, stabilising formulations within a physiologically compatible range. In water treatment, it removes heavy metal ions such as lead and cadmium through ion exchange and surface adsorption. Biotechnology applications include its use as a chromatography medium for protein and nucleic acid purification.

Hydroxyapatite is available in pharmaceutical and food-grade forms, with quality benchmarks including Ph.Eur. and FCC monographs. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply. The product is typically supplied as a white powder in multi-layer paper sacks or fibre drums, with packaging formats subject to order volume.
