Description

Inositol Hexaphosphate (IHP), commonly known as phytic acid or phytine, is a naturally occurring phosphoric acid ester derived from plant sources. Identified by CAS 83-86-3 and EC 201-506-6, it carries no assigned E-code and is commercially referenced under abbreviations including IP6 and fytic acid.

In personal care formulations, phytic acid functions as a chelating agent by binding free metal ions that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation, extending product stability. In food and pharmaceutical applications, it serves as an antioxidant stabiliser and pH buffer, controlling metal-catalysed rancidity and maintaining target pH ranges in sensitive matrices.

Inositol Hexaphosphate is supplied as a colourless to light brown aqueous solution suitable for direct incorporation into formulations. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply and is classified under HS code 29199000. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications against FCC or relevant pharmacopoeial standards depending on the intended application.
