Description

Iron(III) acetylacetonate, commonly abbreviated as Fe(acac)3 and also known as ferric acetylacetonate or ironpentanedionate, is a coordination compound of iron with three acetylacetonate ligands. It carries no E-code designation and is registered under CAS 14024-18-1 and EC 237-853-5.

In polymer chemistry, Fe(acac)3 functions as a catalyst precursor in atom transfer radical polymerization, where it generates the iron redox couple that controls chain growth and dispersity. It also serves as a curing catalyst in epoxy and silicone systems, and as a precursor in chemical vapour deposition processes for iron oxide thin films in electronics manufacturing.

Fe(acac)3 is supplied as a dark red powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU-based procurement. It is classified under HS code 29420000 and is available in research and technical grades. Buyers should confirm purity specifications and packaging formats directly with the supplier.
