Description
Isoeugenol (CAS 97-54-1) is a naturally derived phenylpropanoid compound obtained from essential oils such as ylang-ylang and nutmeg. It is commercially identified by the names Propenylguaiacol, 4-Propenylguaiacol, and FEMA 2468, and is a structural isomer of eugenol distinguished by the position of its double bond.
In fragrance formulation, isoeugenol contributes warm, spicy, carnation-type notes and functions as a fixative by slowing the evaporation of lighter fragrance components. In polymer and packaging applications, it acts as an antioxidant by scavenging free radicals that cause oxidative degradation, and its UV-absorbing properties help stabilize light-sensitive materials during processing and end use.
Isoeugenol is supplied as a technical or fragrance-grade liquid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It is classified as a known skin sensitizer under IFRA and EU cosmetic regulations, requiring concentration limits in leave-on and rinse-off formulations. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs.
