Isooctanol

Isooctanol (CAS 26952-21-6) is a mixture of branched-chain primary C8 alcohols, commercially available under trade names including Exxal 8. It is not assigned an E-code and should not be confused with linear octanol; its branched isomer profile distinguishes it chemically and functionally from straight-chain alternatives.

In plasticizer production, isooctanol reacts with phthalic or adipic acid anhydrides to form ester plasticizers that improve flexibility in PVC compounds. In lubricant formulation, it serves as a building block for synthetic ester base fluids and additive carriers, where its branched structure contributes to low-temperature performance and controlled viscosity.

Isooctanol is supplied in liquid form and is registered under REACH. It is available in standard industrial packaging including drums and IBC containers, with bulk quantities subject to supplier confirmation.
