Description

Isopropyl citrate (CAS 39413-05-3), also known as monoisopropyl citrate or citric acid isopropyl ester, is a partial ester of citric acid formed by esterification with isopropanol. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available as a mixture of mono-, di-, and triisopropyl citrate esters.

In food and lubricant formulations, isopropyl citrate functions as a chelating agent that binds pro-oxidant metal ions such as iron and copper, interrupting lipid oxidation chain reactions and extending shelf life or fluid stability. In personal care emulsions, it acts as a secondary emulsifier and pH buffer, improving dispersion stability without contributing odor.

Isopropyl citrate is supplied in food-grade and technical-grade forms, with food applications governed by FCC specifications and REACH compliance required for industrial supply within the EU. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs. Buyers should confirm ester distribution profile with the supplier, as mono-ester content varies by grade.
