Isotridecanol, ethoxylated

Isotridecanol ethoxylated (CAS 9043-30-5) is a non-ionic surfactant produced by ethoxylating isotridecanol with varying numbers of ethylene oxide units. It is sold under trade names including Genapol X, Rokanol IT, and Brij 35, and is also referenced by abbreviations such as C12E9 and C12E23. No E-code applies to this substance.

In textile processing, it functions as a wetting and scouring agent by reducing interfacial tension between fiber surfaces and aqueous baths, allowing soils and oils to be lifted and rinsed away. In personal care formulations, it acts as an emulsifier by stabilising oil-in-water systems through its hydrophilic-lipophilic balance. Leather processing operations use it as a degreasing carrier to solubilise and remove natural fats from hides prior to tanning.

This material is supplied in grades differentiated by ethylene oxide chain length, which determines HLB value and application suitability. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Packaging typically follows standard industrial formats for liquid or semi-solid chemical products.
