Description

L-β-Asparagine (CAS 70-47-3) is a naturally occurring amino acid also known as L-Asn, ASN, H-Asn-OH, Altheine, and Agedoite. It carries no assigned E-code. As a proteinogenic amino acid, it is a structural component of proteins and plays a direct role in nitrogen metabolism across biological systems.

In personal care formulations, L-Asparagine functions as a humectant and skin conditioner by attracting and retaining moisture at the stratum corneum level. In pharmaceutical and nutritional applications, it serves as a buffering agent, stabilising pH in aqueous systems through its amine and carboxyl groups. It is also used in hair conditioner formulations to support surface interaction with keratin.

L-Asparagine is available in powder form to pharmaceutical and food-grade specifications, including compliance with Ph.Eur. and FCC standards. It falls under HS code 29241900 and is subject to REACH registration requirements for supply within the European Economic Area.
