Description

L-Lysine hydrochloride (CAS 10098-89-2), also referred to as L-Lysine HCl or L-Lysine Monohydrochloride, is the hydrochloride salt form of the essential amino acid lysine. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially produced through microbial fermentation followed by acid precipitation and crystallisation.

In animal feed formulations, L-Lysine HCl is added to compensate for lysine deficiency in cereal-based diets, directly improving protein utilisation and feed conversion ratios in poultry and swine. In pharmaceutical applications, it serves as a buffering agent and active ingredient in antiviral formulations, where it competes with arginine uptake at the cellular level.

L-Lysine hydrochloride is available in feed-grade and pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP/FCC) specifications. It is subject to REACH registration and, where used in food or pharma contexts, must meet relevant purity thresholds for heavy metals and microbial limits. Typical supply formats include 25 kg bags and bulk quantities.
