Description

L-Phenylalanine (CAS 63-91-2) is a proteinogenic aromatic amino acid supplied as a white crystalline powder under abbreviations including Phe, H-Phe-OH, and H-L-Phe-OH, and registered under FEMA 3585. It is an essential amino acid, meaning the human body cannot synthesise it and must obtain it through diet or supplementation.

In personal care formulations, L-Phenylalanine functions as a humectant and skin conditioner by attracting and retaining moisture within the stratum corneum, while its free amino group provides mild pH buffering capacity in aqueous systems. In food and nutraceutical applications, it serves as a direct dietary amino acid supplement and acts as a precursor in the enzymatic synthesis of high-intensity sweeteners such as aspartame.

L-Phenylalanine is available in food-grade (FCC) and pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP) specifications, supporting use across regulated industries. It falls under REACH registration requirements within the EU (EC 200-568-1, HS 29224995). Standard packaging includes 25 kg fibre drums.
