Description

L-(-)-Tyrosine (CAS 60-18-4) is a non-essential aromatic amino acid commercially identified under the abbreviations H-TYR-OH and H-L-TYR-OH, and listed under FEMA 3736 for flavour applications. It carries no assigned E-code. It is the biologically active L-enantiomer used across personal care, food, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

In cosmetic formulations, tyrosine functions as a skin and hair conditioner by supporting keratin structure and moisture retention at the cellular level. As a humectant, it attracts and binds water within the stratum corneum. Its phenolic hydroxyl group also contributes antioxidant activity, scavenging free radicals to protect formulation integrity and skin tissue.

L-(-)-Tyrosine is available in pharmaceutical grade meeting Ph.Eur. and USP specifications, and in food grade conforming to FCC standards. The substance is registered under REACH (EC 200-460-4) and supplied as a white to off-white powder, typically in 25 kg bags or fibre drums. HS code 29225000 applies for import classification.
