Description

Lauroyl glutamic acid (CAS 3397-65-7) is an amino acid-based surfactant derived from glutamic acid and lauric acid, commercially available under trade names including Amisoft LA and SOFTAN LG-A. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive.

In personal care formulations, it functions as a mild emulsifier and wetting agent, reducing interfacial tension to stabilise oil-in-water systems in cleansers and conditioning products. Its glutamic acid backbone also provides buffering capacity, helping formulators maintain target pH ranges without secondary additives.

Lauroyl glutamic acid is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market entry. Procurement teams should confirm supplier documentation for cosmetic-grade compliance with EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 and request safety data sheets aligned with current GHS standards. Packaging formats vary by supplier and order volume.
