Description

Lead(II) 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS 301-08-6, EC 206-107-0), also known as lead bis(2-ethylhexanoate) or lead 2-ethylhexanoate, is an organometallic lead salt formed from 2-ethylhexanoic acid. It carries no assigned E-code and is supplied as a liquid under standard conditions.

In coatings and alkyd resin systems, it functions as a drier catalyst, accelerating oxidative crosslinking of unsaturated binders through metal-mediated radical generation. It also serves as a heat stabiliser in PVC compounding, where it suppresses dehydrochlorination, and as a lubricity additive in metalworking fluids where the lead carboxylate structure reduces boundary friction.

This compound is subject to REACH regulation (Regulation EC 1907/2006) and falls under restrictions applicable to lead compounds; buyers should confirm current authorisation and use conditions before procurement. It is available in liquid form, typically supplied in drums or IBCs, and no FCC or Ph.Eur. grade is established.
