Description

Lignosulfonic acid, sodium salt (CAS 8061-51-6) is a water-soluble anionic polymer derived from sulfite pulp processing, where lignin is sulfonated and recovered as a byproduct. It is commercially available under trade names including Orzans, Urzans, Zewa-SL, REAX 85A, and Betz 402, and is classified under HS code 3804.00.1000.

In concrete admixtures, it acts as a plasticizer by adsorbing onto cement particles and creating electrostatic repulsion, reducing water demand without sacrificing workability. In mining, it disperses ore slurries and suppresses dust by binding fine particles through its polyelectrolyte structure. Water treatment applications exploit its chelating capacity to sequester calcium and magnesium ions, inhibiting scale formation.

The material is supplied in technical and purified grades as powder or crystalline solid, with molecular weight and sulfonation degree varying by grade. It is registered under REACH and complies with standard industrial specifications. Packaging is typically available in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities.
