Description

Linoleic acid (CAS 60-33-3) is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid, abbreviated C18:2(n-6) and sold under trade names including Polylin 515 and Unifac 6550. It is also known as linolic acid and occurs naturally in vegetable oils such as sunflower and safflower. It carries no assigned E-code.

In personal care formulations, linoleic acid functions as an emollient and skin conditioner by integrating into the lipid barrier and improving moisture retention. In food applications, it acts as a flavorant and contributes to emulsification by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases. It also serves as a pH buffer in pharmaceutical preparations.

Linoleic acid is available in food-grade and cosmetic-grade forms, with quality benchmarks including FCC and Ph.Eur. standards depending on the application. The substance is registered under REACH and supplied in bulk quantities. Buyers should confirm grade specification and origin documentation prior to procurement.
