Description

Lithium molybdate (CAS 13568-40-6, EC 236-977-7), also known as dilithium molybdate or lithium molybdate(VI), is an inorganic salt formed from lithium and molybdenum oxide. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially identified under the formula Li2MoO4.

In water treatment, lithium molybdate functions as an anodic corrosion inhibitor, forming a protective oxide layer on ferrous metal surfaces to suppress electrochemical dissolution. In metalworking lubricants and greases, it serves as an extreme-pressure additive, reducing metal-to-metal contact and oxidative degradation of the lubricant film at elevated temperatures.

Lithium molybdate is supplied as a white crystalline powder in technical grade, with packaging typically available in 25 kg bags or drums. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable EU chemical regulations. No FCC or Ph.Eur. monograph applies to this material.
