Macleaya cordata extract

Macleaya cordata extract (CAS 112025-60-2, EC 601-152-6) is a botanical alkaloid complex derived from the plume poppy plant, standardised to sanguinarine and chelerythrine as its primary active constituents. It is commercially known under names including Plumepoppy P.E., Sanguiritrine Chloride, and Macleaya Extract, and carries no assigned E-code.

In agriculture and animal feed, the extract functions as a natural biocide and growth promoter, with sanguinarine disrupting microbial cell membranes to suppress pathogenic bacteria in gut environments. In personal care formulations, its antioxidant activity inhibits free radical chain reactions, supporting product stability and extending shelf life without synthetic preservatives.
