Description

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP, CAS 113170-55-1) is a water-soluble, phosphorylated derivative of vitamin C stabilised through magnesium salt formation. It is sold under trade names including C-Mate, Phospitan C, Ascorbyl PM, and MERCARE MAP, and carries EC number 601-239-9.

In personal care formulations, MAP functions as a skin-conditioning antioxidant by releasing ascorbic acid enzymatically upon skin contact, enabling vitamin C activity without the oxidative instability of free ascorbic acid. It is used in brightening serums and moisturisers to inhibit melanin synthesis and neutralise free radicals at the cellular level.

MAP is supplied as a solid powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market entry. Procurement teams should confirm cosmetic-grade compliance with ISO 16128 natural origin criteria where applicable. Standard packaging formats vary by supplier; certificates of analysis and safety data sheets are available upon request.
