Description

Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3, CAS 546-93-0) is an inorganic mineral salt sourced from natural magnesite deposits and available under trade names including Apolda and Kimboshi. It carries no E-number designation in the EU but is recognised under EC number 208-915-9 and HS code 28369910.

In pharmaceutical tablet manufacturing, magnesium carbonate acts as a pH buffer and flow-control agent, neutralising acidic excipients to stabilise active ingredients during compression. In PVC and polymer processing, it functions as a heat stabiliser by scavenging hydrogen chloride released during thermal degradation, slowing chain breakdown at elevated processing temperatures.

Magnesium carbonate is supplied in food-grade, pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur. compliant), and technical grades as a free-flowing white powder. It meets FCC specifications for food-contact applications and is registered under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities for industrial procurement.
