Description

Magnesium sulfate (CAS 7487-88-9, EC 231-298-2, formula MgSO4) is an inorganic salt commercially known as Epsom salt or hair salt. It carries no E-number designation and is distinct from magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, though both share the same core chemistry and many industrial applications.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, magnesium sulfate acts as a drying agent and reaction catalyst, accelerating specific synthesis steps by coordinating with substrate molecules. In agriculture, it corrects magnesium deficiency in soils and serves as a micronutrient carrier in foliar sprays. Water treatment facilities use it as a process additive to control microbial activity and stabilize treatment chemistry.

Magnesium sulfate is available in anhydrous and heptahydrate grades conforming to Ph.Eur., FCC, and USP standards, with REACH registration covering industrial supply within the EU. Procurement is supported in 25 kg bags, bulk bags, and loose bulk formats depending on application grade and volume requirements.
