Description
Mandelic acid (CAS 90-64-2, EC 202-007-6), also known as almond acid or amygdalic acid, is an alpha-hydroxy acid derived from the hydrolysis of amygdalin found in bitter almonds. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available as the racemic DL form.
In personal care formulations, mandelic acid functions as a skin conditioner and exfoliant by accelerating corneocyte desquamation through weakening of intercellular adhesion. In pharmaceutical and antimicrobial applications, it acts as a urinary antiseptic and pH buffer, inhibiting bacterial growth by lowering local pH and disrupting microbial membrane integrity.
Mandelic acid is supplied as a white crystalline powder meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC grade specifications, supporting use across pharmaceutical and food-contact applications. It is fully registered under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags or drums, with documentation available to support EU regulatory submissions.
