Description

Manganese stearate (CAS 3353-05-7) is a manganese salt of stearic acid, also referred to as manganous stearate, manganese distearate, or manganese(II) stearate. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive. It is commercially available as a white to off-white solid.

In polymer processing, manganese stearate functions as an internal lubricant, reducing friction between polymer chains and metal surfaces during extrusion and moulding. In coating and adhesive formulations, it acts as a drier and surface modifier, promoting oxidative crosslinking of binder systems. Its plasticising effect also finds application in elastomer compounding to improve flexibility and processability.

Manganese stearate is supplied in powder or prill form and is subject to REACH registration requirements for European market supply. Buyers should confirm grade specifications, including metal content and acid value, with the supplier prior to procurement. Standard packaging formats include fibre drums and multi-wall paper sacks.
