Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCT) are a refined lipid fraction composed of caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) fatty acids esterified to a glycerol backbone. Also known as Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride or Glyceryl Caprylate Caprate, they carry no assigned E-code and are commonly abbreviated as MCT oil in formulation and procurement contexts.
In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturing, MCT functions as a carrier solvent for lipophilic active ingredients, improving dissolution and bioavailability in softgel and oral liquid formulations.
