Description

Meglumine (CAS 6284-40-8), also known as methylglucamine or methylglucamin, is a sugar-derived amine produced by the reduction of glucose with methylamine. It carries no E-code designation. It is used across pharmaceutical and personal care manufacturing as a pH-adjusting base and solubilising agent.

In pharmaceutical formulations, meglumine forms stable salt complexes with acidic active ingredients, improving their aqueous solubility and bioavailability without aggressive chemical modification. In personal care products, it functions as a humectant by attracting and retaining moisture in the skin and hair, and serves as a conditioning agent in leave-on and rinse-off formulations.

Meglumine is available in USP and Ph.Eur. compliant grades as a white crystalline powder, supporting use in both pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications under REACH registration. It is classified under HS code 29221980 and is typically supplied in sealed bags or drums suited to GMP-aligned procurement requirements.
